WORLD DANCE DAY – 2022
World Dance Day is celebrated on April 29th each year, encouraging people to participate in dance and educate themselves. Kathak dancer Sangeeta Majumder and ‘Strings ‘N’ Steps Academy of Performing Arts and Festivals‘ celebrated this opportunity by hosting an online festival for young kathak students and dance lovers. The event was divided into two parts: a workshop and a student presentation. The theme of this celebration was “Kathak as an ecstatic dance style for everyone”, emphasizing the fun part of the dance and how to convey it to the audience. Sangeeta has been teaching Kathak online since 2011. She said “The two twins, Riddhi & Siddhi, were my first students from the United States. Since then, the students have varied from Argentina, Canada, Germany, Hungary, India, Indonesia, the Netherlands, Peru, Spain, the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, and more. These students come from all disciplines such as high school and college and have other backgrounds such as engineering, medicine, law, and even private detectives. One common thing is that everyone wants to spend time with themselves through dance. As a dance teacher and performer, this is of utmost importance to me. The performers of the event were Aahana (MP), Anushka (Dubai), Ashmita (Kolkata), Debjani (Bangalore), Ipsita (USA), Jeenal (Gujarat), Mrudula (Chennai), Neeta (Bangalore), Ojasvita (Bangalore), Srishti (Varanasi), Prapti & Yashmita (Delhi). Professional belly dancer Samira Andrea Lapira from Argentina also attended the event as she is passionate about Kathak. She congratulated Sangeeta on her global progress.
